Spa Therapy Vegan Deodorant in Summertime

Earlier this summer I embarked on a journey to find the perfect natural deodorant. I tried Lush’s Aromarant first, which was ok but I stilled felt I could do better.

Enter Spa Therapy’s Vegan Deodorant in Summertime!

I’ve  been wearing this deodorant for a week and I love it. The scent is fresh with slight floral hints. Not too over powering but definitely strong enough to hide any sweaty pit odor. It doesn’t interfere with the sweating process but rather neutralizes odor causing bacteria. One of my issues with Lush’s deodorant was its rough application. Spa Therapy’s deodorant  goes on silky smooth and clear so you don’t have to worry about those unsightly white marks on dark clothing (don’t you hate those?!)

The deodorant is also vegan. Here’s a list of ingredients from Spa Therapy’s Etsy shop:

Propylene Glycol: A humectant and fragrance carrier
Purified Water
Sodium Stearate: A stearic acid salt used as a nontoxic stabilizer.
Vegetable Protein: Neutralizes odor causing enzymes. Protects against chapping and irritation
Hydrogenated Castor Oil: An emollient and carrier oil
Isosteareth-2: A fatty-acid that works as an emulsifying agent
Salicylic Acid: antiseptic agent derived from the willow tree. Prevents pores from clogging up
Steareth-100: An emulsifier, to help keep t ingredients mixed.
Chamomile Flower Extract: An anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiseptic and soothing herb
Aloe Vera Leaf Juice: A healing emollient with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties
Grapefruit Seed Extract: An antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals. Used as preservative
Diazolidinyl Urea & Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate: Preservatives with broad fungicidal activity – non paraben preservative
EDTA: An amino acid that improves product stability
Free of aluminum or bactericides.

I am very pleased with Spa Therapy’s Vegan Deodorant. I’m loving the Summertime scent but there are plenty of scents to choose from.

I will continue my quest though. I’ll let you know what else I find!

Lush’s Aromarant Deodorant

Recently I’ve been reading all kinds of terrible things about the ingredients in deodorants/anti-perspirants. I’m not entirely convinced that my deodorant will give me cancer but I figure that the least amount of chemicals I put in/on my body the better. So I’ve set out on a little journey to find a good natural deodorant.

First up,  Lush’s Aromarant Deodorant. This Vegan deodorant bar is made with lemon tea and herbs to deliver fresh,  astringent cooling to sweaty pits (or feet). It’s also full of Bicarbonate Soda to help absorb ordors and neutralize the microbes that live on our skin and react with our sweat. It’s scented with Sandalwood oil to leave you smelling good. I was pretty nervous about saying goodbye to my old stand-by – Dove – but happy that I gave Aromarant a shot.  It smells fresh and left my armpits feeling cool. I first tried it out while vacationing in Chicago and it kept me smelling fresh for the whole day. However, it is not an anti-perspirant so if you’re a super Sweaty Betty, this may not be for you! Also, it comes in a huge block that sometimes dries out so the first couple of swipes can be a little harsh when applying it. Lastly, it’s not as powerful as my old Dove deodorant when I’m in super sweat mode like during workouts. Lush has about 3 other natural deodorants in different strengths so that you can find the perfect one for yourself. All in all, I like it. It works pretty well for me and I haven’t gotten any complaints of me stinking up the joint. But I think I will keep looking. I like a smoother application when it comes to deodorant.

So I will continue on my quest for the perfect natural deodorant. I will keep you all up to date on what I find! And if there are any that you’d recommend or that you’d like me to try, drop me a line and let me know.

What do you think? Are you switching to natural deodorant or are you happy with your regular one? What do you use to stay smelling like roses?

Every Man Jack

I know I usually focus on women’s beauty products but men need a little pampering too – especially with Father’s Day just around the corner (June 21st). So this week we’ll be paying extra special attention to the men in our lives so we could make them just that much sexier.

Every Man Jack has an impressive line of products made from high-quality formulas and natural ingredients that are not only affordable (the line’s available at Target) but will also keep your man feeling like a man. The line ranges from soap bars & body washes to shaving kits & hair  products. Also the packaging is fantastic! It has a really great masculine appeal and is very clean and simple. Here are some of my fave products from Every Man Jack:

Tallow Free Body Bars – Vitamin-enriched body bars will cleanse, soothe and condition your skin while protecting against dryness. They’re made from 100% vegetable base with mineral extracts and contain no parabens, oils or tallow so even our hunky Vegan men can appreciate them! Available in Signature scent, Tea Tree and Cedarwood

Citrus Body Scrub – This exfoliating body bar and body wash will gently scrub your man’s skin leaving him feeling clean and smooth. The fresh citrus scent will invigorate the senses and the wheat bran will help scrub dead skin away. Sounds yummy!

Shave Gel & Shave Cream – The rich gel formula comforts and protects the face for a close shave. The soothing formula hydrates and heals the skin leaving it looking fresh and healthy. Contains menthyl which lubricates skin to reduce shave friction, marine extracts to soothe and moisturize and aloe & Vitamin E to heal and protect. Available both in the signature scent as well as fragrance free.

Every Man Jack KitsCan’t decide what to get your man from Every Man Jack? Well then just get one of their kits which offers a sample of all they have to offer. Choose from the Shave Kits, Body Kits, Starter Kits (pictured above) and Skin Kits. They also make Travel Sized Kits. They’ve thought of everything!

So Mavens, what do you think? What products is your man using now? Do you think he’d enjoy Every Man Jack? I’m definitely going to be buying this for the fiance!

Zoya Nail Polish

I love getting packages in the mail. So I was uber excited when a pretty little package came for me earlier this week. I just knew it was my Zoya nail polishes (eeek!). Zoya collection is not about what’s in the products but rather what is not. The average nail polish is basically nothing more than a refined version of automobile paint. Zoya makes over 300 gorgous, long-lasting nail polishes that are free of toulene, formaldehyde, phthalates and camphor. It’s the best brand that I’ve found that combines rich, trendy colors with a chemical-free formula.

I ordered the La-Di-Da Sampler from their Summer 2009 Collection.  I’m not sure why they call it a ‘sampler’ because it comes with 6 full sized bottle of nail polish. The sampler set comes with 6 summer colors: America (red), Dita (fushcia), Renee (hot pink), Ali (bumblegum pink), Paz (neon yellow) and Pippa (yellow). Now I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m definitely a pink girl when it comes to nail polish but there was something about the yellow that made me instantly reach for it.  And I’m glad I did.

It’s ridiculously vibrant! It makes me exceedingly happy.

Everytime I get a glimpse of my toes it makes me smile. I’m excited to try out the other colors as well.  So Zoya is a definite must buy in my opinion. It’s less harsh than the usual nail polish and it comes in fantastic colors that make you instantly happy. What more could you ask for, right?

What color are you wearing right now? What’s your summer color?

Juice Beauty Review

So you regular readers may remember that I recently started using Lush’s Angel on Bare Skin face cleanser and I absolutely love it. But I was still in need of a great moisturizer for my face. I have always heard great things about Juice Beauty so I headed to my local Sephora to give the line a try. I was impressed with Juice Beauty’s line of products. They are all made with certified organic ingredients and are packed with powerful antioxidants and polyphenols, essential vitamins, vital phytonutrients and age-defying hydroxy acids.

And of course, like most times I enter any Sephora, I left with much more than I actually anticipated buying. Here’s my Juice Beauty loot:

Nutrient Moisturizer

This nutrient-rich organic moisturizer blends certified organic grape juice, vitamin-rich carrot juice and nourishing essential fatty acids to replenish and protect for smooth, healthy skin. I adore this moisturizer! As soon as I tried it on in the store I was in love. It’s ridiculously supple and moist. I feel like I’m treating my face to a small indulgence each time I use it.  I’ve been using it twice a day and my skin has never felt better. It provides great moisture without making my face feel or look greasy. And it’s long-lasting. Applying this to my face literally makes me a wee bit happier – I know, I’m a dork.

organic juices of vitis vinifera (white grape) juice, daucus carota sativa (carrot) juice & aloe barbadensis leaf juice, organic botanical extracts of calendula officinalis flower, matricaria chamomilla flower, tilia europea (linden) leaf & rose canina (rosehip) fruit, glycerin, organic plant oils of butyrospermum parkii (shea butter) & simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed, organic essential fatty acids of oenothera biennis (evening primrose), linum usitatissimum (linseed) seed & borago officinali (borage) seed, organic honey, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, organic algae extract, squalane, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), retinyl palmitate (vitamin A), magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C), panthenol (vitamin B5), hyaluronic acid, hydroxypropyl starch phosphate, glyceryl stearate, potassium sorbate, phospholipids, beta carotene, palmitic acid, stearic acid, cetearyl glucoside, xanthan gum, sodium hydroxide, benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, litsea cubeba (may chang), cananga odorata (ylang ylang), boswellia carterii (frankincense) & commiphora myrrha pure essential oils.

SPF 30 Mineral Sheer Moisturizer

I originally was just going to use the Nutrient Moisturizer at nighttime so I also purchased the Mineral Sheer Moisturizer with SPF for daytime use. This sheer moisturizer combines chemical-free full-spectrum SPF 30 sun protection with certified organic white grape and pomegranate juices, vitamin antioxidants and essential nutrients to replenish and protect for optimum anti-aging benefits. Unfortunately, when I applied this moisturizer it made my face look ashen and white. No matter what I did I could not rub it in fully. So this will have to go back to the store.

Blemish Clearing Serum

I have blemish-prone skin and the blemish clearing serum sounded like something that would be beneficial for me. It’s a powerful hydroxy-acid complex of certified organic apple, lemon and raw cane sugar blended with vitamin antioxidants and coenzyme Q10 to help clear blemishes and even out skin tone and texture. I’ve been using this under my moisturizer and have enjoyed the results.

juices of pyrus malus (apple) juice,* citrus medica limonum (lemon) juice* & aloe barbadensis leaf juice,* saccharum officinarum,* salix alba (willow bark) extract, glycerin, botanical extracts of taraxacum officinale (dandelion) leaf,* melissa officinalis (lemon balm) leaf,* salvia officinalis (sage) leaf* & camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf,* algae extract,* ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C), tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), retinyl palmitate (vitamin A), panthenol (vitamin B5), allantoin, phospholipids, sodium hydroxide, sclerotium gum, phenoxyethanol, benzyl alcohol, potassium sorbate, xanthan gum, lavandula angustifolia & commiphora myrrha pure essential oils. * certified organic by a USDA approved agency

So now my facial routine is Angels on Bare Skin cleanser, Tea Tree Oil Toner, Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum and finally Juice Beauty Nutrient Moisturizer. My face has really been responding well to all of the products. Plus I’m proud to announce that I’ve “naturaled up” my face cleansing routine – woot!

Have any of you tried Juice Beauty? What did you think of it? What’s your facial cleansing routine?
